It was so great to get back into our Friday night routine of having Hannah and Adam sleep over at our house and then going to breakfast at McDonald's Saturday morning! I really appreciate being able to do those little things again. Grandchildren are wonderful and I love reading to them and having them spend time at our house. It won't be long till Matthew can stay too. He's still just a little too high maintenance. I sure wish Sebastian and Julian lived closer.
Greg was a very good Grandpa today. He walked with the kids on the boardwalk and Tubbs Hill. Then he took them to a 3-D movie, "Journey to the Center of the Earth". They really liked it.
I enjoyed a very short visit at Fernan Friday afternoon. I had a couple of things to deliver and I loved seeing some special friends. But it was a little sad to be there and not be teaching.
Greg learned another recipe and is anxious to try it. I like this new enthusiasm he has for learning to cook! Hope you're having a good weekend. Love, Julie

I am planning a trip soon! School has been absorbing lately. Great new leadership and a renewed dedication to teach my best has been occupying my time. A new 12 grade English class is challenging. I thought The Odyssey would be "fun" to teach. I dreamed of discussions about the journey of life and the epic hero model that fits so much into modern perceptions. You know, explore the Joseph Campbell "Hero's Journey" thing and they would be blown away at how their own lives are the same journey and the values of 4000 years ago are the same as theirs. Well, that just isn't going to happen. Twenty five sets of eyes that are struggling to deal with the language, big words and allusions to Gods and Goddesses that they have about as much in common with as they do with McCain. Wait a minute, wasn't McCaine on the ship with Odysseus? Anyway, I have been preoccupied with getting them engaged. I will keep trying. Isn't it funny Julie, that when you think the kids are going to like something because you are really jazzed about it? And then it just bombs. Oh well, one thing I really like about teaching is that for me I am never bored. I am happy, joyous, sad, mad, crazy, but never bored.
I hope you feel well this week and that you can teach soon, I know how much you must miss it.
Concentrate on getting healthy and maybe try playing or creating some music on that old piano of yours. I was excited this week when Jeremiah wanted to know which kind of piano he should get. See, your influence keeps on going. and going, and going.
Love Jerry
I sure enjoyed reading about your school situation. I think sometimes we see connections and value in 4000 year old literature because of our many more life experiences than the teenagers you are teaching. I would find your class fascinating. I love how you described the whole thing. I'm glad you are enjoying teaching this fall. Are you going to travel to North Idaho? Love, Julie
